A carer’s assessment is an opportunity to focus on how caring affects you, and any help you need to support you in your caring role and protect your health and wellbeing.
For an individual assessment, you can contact the new Reading & West Berkshire Carers Partnership provider. The Reading & West Berkshire Carers Partnership is made up of charities who conduct the assessments on behalf of the council. See what category you fit below and contact the relevant charity.

If the person you care for is open to a social care team you can request a carer’s assessment through your allocated worker directly or call us on 0118 937 3747.
If the person you care for has a social care assessment or review, if you and the person you care for agrees, you can have a carers assessment at the same time. This assessment can be done by the social worker allocated to support the person you care for. To request one speak to your social worker or contact us.
After a carer’s assessment, you may be offered:
After the carer’s assessment is completed, if there is a recommendation that you or the person you care for should receive help from Adult Social Care, this will be sent to Reading Borough Council to consider. Please get in touch if you’ve not heard anything after four weeks.
After the Parent Carer’s Assessment is completed, if there is a recommendation that your family should receive help from Brighter Futures for Children, this will be considered. Please get in touch if you’ve not heard anything after four weeks.
Brighter Futures for Children supports children under 18 years who have extra responsibilities at home because of a disabled sibling or parent with support needs. There are groups for young people split into three age groups: 6–9 years, 5–11 years and 13–18 years.
