‘Any person wishing to make representation to an application must do so in writing to Reading Borough Council, Licensing Section, Civic Offices, Bridge Street, Reading, RG1 2LU. Or via email to licensing@reading.gov.uk. Representations must relate to any relevant code of practice and guidance issued by the Commission, the licensing objectives, the Council’s Gambling Policy and contain a full name and address. No written representations will have personal details removed unless the licensing authority deems it appropriate to do so. Any request for personal details to be removed should be notified to the Licensing Authority at the time of making the representation.

The Gambling Act requires local authorities to provide to the applicant copies of all representations made in relation to an application. In some exceptional and isolated circumstances interested parties may be reluctant to make representations because of fears of violence or intimidation if their personal details such as name and address are divulged to the applicant. In these cases we would consider withholding people’s personal details. It is an offence to knowingly or recklessly make a false statement in connection with an application, the maximum fine for doing so upon summary conviction is unlimited.
