Challenging your Council Tax band
The amount of Council Tax you have to pay is based on your Council Tax band. Your Council Tax band is shown on your bill.
The Valuation Office Agency have created a video that answers common questions about Council Tax. It explains how homes are placed into bands, and what proof you need if you want to challenge your Council Tax band.
You can check Council Tax bands on the Valuation Office Agency’s website. You will need the postcode.

If you think your Council Tax band is wrong, you can challenge it on the GOV.UK website. You’ll need to provide supporting evidence showing why you think your property is in the wrong band – for example, details about properties that are similar to yours but in lower tax bands.
