Getting started as a new resident

Welcome to Reading! Follow the steps below to set up your Council Tax account.

Step 1: Tell us you’re moving in

Use our online form to let us know that you’re moving to Reading.

Before you start

Please note, the system will ask you to log in or register for a main account with Reading Borough Council before starting.

To complete the ‘moving into Reading’ form, you will need to provide:

• your contact details, including a phone number
• the address you are moving from
• the address you are moving to
• student ID numbers (if applicable)

After completing the form, your details will be reviewed by the Council Tax team. Once processed, we will email your Council Tax account number to you. This can take up to 10 working days. You can use this Council Tax account number to create an online Council Tax account.

Step 2: Create an online Bills and Benefits account

An online Bills and Benefits account makes it easy to manage your Council Tax bills and payments. You can quickly check your balance, update your details, set up payments, and apply for discounts – all in one place.

Before you start

You will need your Council Tax account number to complete the first step of creating an account.

Verification PIN

You can request a verification PIN by email, or if we do not have an email address, we can send a verification PIN to you in the post.

It can take up to 5 working days to receive your PIN. Once you have received your PIN, you will need to log in to your Bills and Benefits account and complete the verification.
