Housing Online – How to register
Due to implementation of a new IT system, from Tuesday 7 May 2024 you will need to register for a new account with Housing Online.
To register for a Housing Online account, you will be one of the following:
- new applicant (no current applications)
- current tenant (the tenancy is in your name)
- existing Homechoice at Reading applicant (the application is in your name)
- former tenant (the former tenancy is in your name)
What is Housing Online?
Housing Online is a platform for Reading Borough Council Housing Register applicants to manage their application for housing. By creating an account, you will be able to submit forms, track applications, submit documents easily and bid for available properties.
How to register
In order to complete the registration form, you will need to:
- Provide and verify a valid email address
- Create a password
- Provide your name, address and a contact number
- Enter a memorable question and date for secure authentication
- Provide a reference number
Selecting the right option
When visiting the Housing Online website, there are three options – one to log in, and two for registering a new account. Click the options below to decide which one is right for you:
Logging in
This option is for those who have already registered with Housing Online.
Create an account for current/former tenants OR existing Homechoice Applicants
If you have an existing Homechoice application, or are a current/former tenant of Reading Borough Council (or Affinity), please create an account using this option.
You will be asked to provide a number as form of identification. If you are not sure which number to use please call on 01189 372172 to request this information before creating an account.
You can provide any of the following numbers:
Tenancy reference number
If you are a tenant, you will find this reference number on your tenancy paperwork.
Payment reference number
This is the number you use to make rent or sundry account payments.
Homechoice Personal Identification Number (PIN)
This number is detailed on Homechoice correspondence and used as the reference number to log in to bid.
Homechoice application reference number
If you are unsure of your Homechoice application reference number, you can contact us to confirm this number by calling 0118 937 3787.
Please note: If you made a Homechoice application prior to Tuesday 7 May 2024, this is the correct option for you to select. Please do not submit a further Homechoice application.

Register as a new customer
Please use this option if you are a new customer of Reading Borough Council, therefore you do not have any current Homechoice applications.
