Naming ceremonies

A naming ceremony helps you welcome your new baby, stepchild or adopted child into your family, as an alternative to a religious celebration. Each ceremony can be tailored to celebrate more than one child, of any age.

The ceremony will last approximately 20-30 minutes and is delivered by an experienced member of the Reading registration staff. Commemorative certificates will be presented to the child, supporting adults and grandparents. You may choose to personalise the ceremony by including a reading of verse or a suitable piece of prose.

Any parent, legal guardian or person with parental responsibility of the child may organise a naming ceremony and you can choose to hold it at any one of our licensed venues, a venue of your choice, or your own home. You do not have to be a Reading Borough resident to use this service.

Call us on 0118 937 3533 to discuss a booking. We will take the ceremony deposit at the time of booking. You will be sent a ceremony pack which will guide you through the ceremony options and enhancements. After a planning meeting, we will write the ceremony then send to you for approval prior to the celebration.
