Community transport

The issue

The Readibus service can be booked ahead of time by people with restricted mobility. This means last minute bookings cannot be made which limits travel options for these people, who may be some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Three Readibuses parked on Broad Street with some passengers cheering.

The scheme

The Readibus service will be extended to enable more flexibility for travel in Reading.

 The outcome

  • People with mobility impairments will be able to travel more flexibly
  • Greater independence for users
  • Mental and health benefits for users
  • People with mobility impairments are given priority access to the town centre
  • Increased access to key services, including shops and medical services
