Strategic and town centre cycle routes

The issue 

Currently cycle routes in Reading do not always connect with each other. They can also be of low quality making it particularly hard for cyclists with adapted bikes to use.

The scheme 

Enhancements to cycling in this scheme include: 

  • Improved network of cycle paths 
  • Reallocation of road space for walkers and cyclists 
  • Segregation from traffic 
  • Surface improvements 
  • Parking restrictions
  • Reduced street furniture 

The outcome 

  • Improved access 
  • Increased levels of cycling 
  • Reduction of conflict between pedestrians and cyclists
  • Increased levels of physical activity, leading to improvements in health
